Learn to Play Hockey Program

The Sharper Edge Hockey Program is for those skaters who have demonstrated the skating skills required to advance into our hockey program.  All players must be able to skate forwards and backwards and have completed the Sharper Edge Learn to Skate program or an equivalent Learn to Skate program.  Each player must have full Hockey equipment.  Classes consist of power and edge drills, stick and puck handling, and organized scrimmages.  If you have questions about your child’s readiness, you may speak with the Director, Dawn DiMinico.

Class Content:

Our 45 minutes class is a 30 minute lesson and a 15 minute supervised scrimmage.  Please be considerate to the other skaters in the class and arrive on time.  We respectfully request that parents send healthy skaters to class.  If your child has had a fever within the last 24 hours or exhibits obvious cold symptoms, please do not send your child to skating.

Enrollment:

All classes are on a first come first served basis. You will be enrolled in your first choice of class, unless contacted by Sharper Edge Skating School. If you receive your first choice, you will not receive confirmation. A completed application, release form and payment must be provided before a skater is allowed on Sharper Edge ice.

How to Dress:

Skaters must wear FULL HOCKEY GEAR to skate in the Learn to Play Hockey program.  Full gear consists of

  • Hockey Helmet with Face Mask

  • Hockey Skates

  • Hockey Stick

  • Hockey Gloves

  • Shoulder Pads

  • Elbow Pads

  • Shin Pads

  • Hockey Socks with Hockey Garter Belt

  • Hockey Pants

  • Hockey Cup

Please make sure all equipment is fitted properly.  Sharper Edge reserves the right to remove any skater who does not have the proper equipment.

Make-Ups:

One make-up class is allowed per session. This must be completed during the current session. No make-ups are allowed during the first 2 weeks of the session. Please contact the office to arrange a make-up time. There are no walk-on make-ups allowed. Learn to Play skaters will only be allowed to make up a class during other Learn to Play class times.  Unfortunately there are no Make-Us allowed in the Summer Session.

Cancellations:

If Sharper Edge should cancel classes due to poor weather conditions, this information will be posted on our Facebook page as soon as the decision has been made.  It can also be found on our outgoing voicemail message at (978) 369-0088.  Classes will only be cancelled if the rink closes.  Each session might have some days where classes are not scheduled. You can find that information on the application under "NO ICE".  It would be a good idea to mark that information on your calendar.  A google calendar can be found on our website with class dates and times listed.

There is a one time (non refundable) Registration Fee of $30.00 per child, not to exceed $60.00 per family, per skating year.
